Setup, Compatibility & Care
Sizing and Initial Fit
It is strongly recommended to drop half a size from your usual shoe size when purchasing Red Wing Moc Toe Boots. This style was originally built as a work boot, designed to be roomy, and sizing down typically provides the optimal snug fit that will comfortably break in over time.
Break-In Period
Expect a break-in period. During this time, the robust leather will soften and conform to the shape of your feet. We advise wearing them for shorter periods initially, gradually increasing wear time until they feel fully comfortable.
Compatibility
These boots are compatible with a wide range of uses, from traditional work settings requiring durable footwear to contemporary casual and outdoor wear. Their timeless aesthetic pairs well with denim, workwear, and casual attire.
Leather Care (Briar Oil Slick)
To ensure the longevity and maintain the appearance of your Briar Oil Slick leather boots, follow these care steps:
- Clean Regularly: Remove dirt and dust with a soft brush or damp cloth. For tougher grime, use a dedicated foam cleaner.
- Conditioning: Use Boot Oil specifically designed for Briar Oil Slick leather. Apply a small amount evenly with a clean cloth, working it into the leather. This helps to rehydrate the leather, prevent drying and cracking, and maintain its rich color. Allow the oil to soak in, then buff off any excess.
- Protection: While the leather is robust, consider using a leather protector for added water and stain resistance, especially in wet conditions.
- Storage: When not in use, store your boots in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Using shoe trees can help maintain their shape and absorb moisture.
- Re-soling: Thanks to the Goodyear Welt construction, your boots can be re-soled by a qualified cobbler when the Traction Tred Outsole eventually wears down.
