Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup
Simply wear the Altoro Thermal Jacket as your primary outer layer over appropriate base and mid-layers for optimal warmth and moisture management. Adjust the peaked hood for a snug fit to maximize head protection and seal the storm cuffs to prevent heat loss and snow ingress.
Compatibility
This jacket is designed to be worn as the outermost layer in a cold-weather layering system. Pair it with moisture-wicking base layers and insulating mid-layers (like a fleece or lightweight down vest) to adapt to varying temperatures and activity levels. Its design allows for comfortable movement while accommodating these layers underneath.
Care
To maintain the jacket's waterproof and thermal properties, proper care is essential:
- Washing: Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle. Use a technical fabric-specific cleaner (available from outdoor retailers) instead of standard detergent, as regular detergents can degrade water repellency.
- Avoid: Do not use fabric softeners, bleach, or dry cleaning, as these can damage the technical fibers and waterproof coating.
- Drying: Tumble dry on low heat or hang to air dry completely. Ensure the jacket is thoroughly dry before storing to prevent mildew.
- Re-proofing: Over time, the durable water repellent (DWR) finish may wear off. If water no longer beads on the surface, consider applying a spray-on or wash-in re-proofing treatment suitable for technical outerwear.
