Setup, Compatibility & Care
Proper setup and care are essential to maximize the performance and lifespan of your Nike Mercurial Vapor XVI Academy FG MG football boots.
Setup
- Sizing: Ensure you select the correct size. Football boots should fit snugly but not uncomfortably tight, with minimal space at the toe. Refer to Nike's official sizing guide if unsure.
- Break-In: Like most performance footwear, these boots may require a short break-in period. Wear them for light training sessions or casual use initially to allow the NIKESKIN upper to mold to the unique contours of your foot for optimal comfort and feel.
Compatibility
- Surfaces: These boots are designed for Firm Ground (FG) and Multi-Ground (MG) surfaces. This includes natural grass pitches (especially those that are dry to slightly wet) and various types of artificial turf. Using them on extremely hard ground, concrete, or indoor surfaces is not recommended as it can damage the soleplate and compromise performance.
- Foot Type: The NIKESKIN upper is pliable and adapts well to many foot shapes. However, if you have exceptionally wide feet, you may wish to try them on to ensure a comfortable fit.
Care
- Cleaning After Use: After each use, especially on muddy or dusty pitches, gently wipe down the boots with a damp cloth to remove dirt and debris from the upper and soleplate. Avoid harsh brushes or abrasive cleaners that could damage the material.
- Stud Cleaning: Pay special attention to cleaning the studs and the spaces between them to prevent mud or grass build-up, which can affect grip.
- Drying: Always air dry your boots at room temperature. Do not expose them to direct sunlight, radiators, or other heat sources, as this can cause the materials to crack or shrink. You can stuff them with newspaper to absorb moisture and help maintain their shape.
- Storage: Store your boots in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight when not in use. A boot bag can protect them from dust and dirt.
- Avoid Machine Washing: Never machine wash or tumble dry your football boots, as this can severely damage them.
