FAQs

Are these shoes suitable for long-distance running?

They are ideal for short to mid-distance training and general fitness. For marathon-level distances, professional runners often prefer specialized high-mileage platforms.

Does the sizing run true to size?

Yes, the Under Armour Surge 4 is designed to fit true to size. If you prefer to wear thicker athletic socks, some users opt for a half-size larger.

Can I replace the insole with custom orthotics?

Yes, the deluxe comfort sockliner is removable, allowing you to insert your own custom orthotics if required.

Are these machine washable?

No, machine washing can damage the adhesives and the structure of the cushioning. Always clean by hand using a damp cloth.

What is the primary difference between these and casual sneakers?

These are performance-engineered for athletic movement with high-rebound cushioning and structural support, whereas casual sneakers prioritize aesthetic trends over biomechanical support.

Troubleshooting

Foot slipping inside the shoe

Ensure the laces are threaded through the top eyelets and use a 'runner's loop' to lock the heel in place.

Minor friction or discomfort around the heel

Wear moisture-wicking synthetic or merino wool socks to reduce friction and moisture accumulation.

Visible dirt on the mesh upper

Dab the area with a damp microfiber cloth. Do not scrub aggressively to avoid tearing the fine mesh fibers.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Exceptionally lightweight and breathable construction
Charged Cushioning offers excellent impact absorption
Ankle collar padding prevents common friction points
Molded sockliner adapts well to different foot shapes
Flexible outsole design supports natural gait cycles

Cons

Primarily designed for gym and road use, not rugged trails
Mesh upper may not be fully waterproof in heavy rain
Limited to adult sizing range

Setup, Compatibility & Care

To ensure your Surge 4 trainers maintain their performance, follow these guidelines:

Break-in Period: While they offer immediate step-in comfort, take a short walk or light jog to allow the foam to settle to your arch height.
Cleaning: Remove surface dirt with a soft-bristled brush. Hand wash only using cold water and mild detergent. Do not machine wash, as this may damage the synthetic overlays and foam integrity.
Drying: Air dry naturally at room temperature. Avoid placing shoes near direct heat sources like radiators or in direct sunlight, which can cause the materials to warp or crack.
Storage: Keep in a well-ventilated area away from high moisture to prevent odor buildup and preserve the interior foam cushioning.
