FAQs

Is the jacket fully waterproof?

It features an 8000 MM water column rating, which makes it highly water-resistant and suitable for rain showers, though it is not classified as a heavy-duty submersible raincoat.

Does the hood detach?

No, the hood is permanently attached to the jacket, but it is adjustable via an elasticated drawstring.

How should I store this jacket?

Always store the jacket on a high-quality hanger to maintain its shape, and keep it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.

Can I iron the jacket?

Generally, ironing is not recommended as the high heat can damage the breathable membrane and synthetic polyester fabric.

Is the Stone Island badge removable?

Yes, the iconic badge is attached with two buttons, allowing it to be removed for washing or aesthetic preference.

Troubleshooting

Water begins to soak into the fabric instead of beading off

The DWR (Durable Water Repellent) coating may have worn off; apply a technical fabric restorer spray specifically designed for waterproof membranes.

Stiff or sticky zippers

Ensure no debris is caught in the teeth and gently clean with a soft brush; do not force the zipper.

Visible wrinkles or creases in the fabric

Hang the jacket on a proper hanger in a steamy bathroom for a short period to allow the creases to relax naturally.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Excellent wind and water resistance for daily commuting
Sustainable dyeing process reduces environmental impact
Breathable material prevents overheating during active use
Versatile design allows for easy layering
High-quality, durable hardware and zippers

Cons

Unlined interior may not provide sufficient warmth in freezing temperatures
Requires specific care to maintain the membrane's integrity
Slimmer cut might feel restrictive if worn over heavy sweaters

Setup, Compatibility & Care

Because the Soft Shell-R jacket uses a high-performance laminated membrane, proper care is essential to preserve its technical features. Always refer to the garment's internal care label before washing. Generally, it is recommended to wash the jacket in cold water on a delicate cycle using a mild detergent. Avoid using fabric softeners or bleach, as these can strip the water-repellent treatment and damage the membrane. To dry, hang the jacket in a shaded, well-ventilated area away from direct heat sources, such as radiators, which could warp the synthetic fibers or affect the lamination.
