FAQs

What material is the Brighton Obelisk made from?

The obelisk is handmade from raw steel.

Will the obelisk rust?

Yes, the raw steel is designed to develop a natural, fashionable rusted finish over time, which adds to its character.

Is assembly required?

No, the Brighton Obelisk is a one-piece metal garden obelisk and requires no assembly.

How do I install the obelisk?

The sturdy legs are designed to be easily pushed into the soil for secure grounding.

What are the dimensions of the obelisk?

The obelisk measures 140cm (55 inches) tall and 32cm (13 inches) square.

What types of plants is it suitable for?

It is ideal for supporting hardy climbers like roses and clematis, as well as soft-stemmed plants and trailing vegetables like runner beans.

Can this obelisk be used in a formal garden setting?

Yes, its elegant design and vintage charm make it particularly suitable for formal gardens.

Troubleshooting

Obelisk feels unstable after installation.

Ensure the legs are pushed deep enough into the soil. If the soil is very loose, consider adding a small amount of gravel around the base or using additional ground anchors if necessary.

Rust seems to be spreading unevenly or too quickly.

Uneven rusting is a natural process for raw steel and can vary based on environmental conditions. This is an aesthetic characteristic and does not typically affect structural integrity. If concerned about excessive flaking, consult with the manufacturer.

Plants are not climbing effectively.

Ensure you are using the obelisk with appropriate climbing plants. Gently guide young stems towards the support rings in the initial stages of growth. Check that the plant is receiving adequate sunlight and water.

Setup, Compatibility & Care

Setup:

Identify the desired location in your garden, ensuring it receives adequate sunlight for the intended plants.
Ensure the ground is firm enough to support the obelisk. If the soil is very loose, consider a sturdier base.
Gently push the obelisk's legs directly into the soil to a suitable depth for stability. The one-piece design means no assembly is required.

Compatibility:

Plant Types: Suitable for most climbing plants, including roses, clematis, passiflora, jasmine, and trailing vegetables like runner beans.
Garden Styles: Best suited for traditional, formal, cottage, or country garden styles.
Soil Types: Works best in firm soil. For very soft or sandy soil, additional support or securing may be needed.

Care:

Material: The Brighton Obelisk is made from raw steel and is designed to rust naturally over time. No specific treatment is required to encourage or maintain this patina.
Cleaning: If dirt or debris accumulates, wipe down with a damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners that could damage the developing rust finish.
Winter Care: No special winter care is typically needed. The sturdy steel construction is designed to withstand outdoor conditions.
