Setup, Compatibility & Care
Initial Setup
- First Wear: Lace up the shoes snugly but comfortably. The leather will mold to your foot shape over time.
- Protection: Consider applying a quality leather protector spray before the first wear, especially if you anticipate exposure to elements.
Compatibility
- Wardrobe: Excellent with a wide range of casual and smart-casual clothing, including jeans, chinos, corduroys, and even some lightweight wool trousers.
- Occasions: Ideal for daily wear, weekend activities, casual office environments, social gatherings, and travel.
- Sizing: Clarks Originals Wallabees typically run true to size. If you are between sizes, it's often recommended to try the smaller size first, as the leather will stretch and conform to your foot with wear.
Product Care
The Clarks Originals Wallabee in Beeswax features leather uppers and nubuck insoles, with the iconic natural crepe sole. Proper care is essential to maintain their appearance and longevity.
Leather Uppers (Beeswax Finish)
- Cleaning: Gently brush off any loose dirt or dust with a soft brush. For deeper cleaning, use a damp cloth with a small amount of mild soap, then wipe clean.
- Conditioning: Apply a specialized leather conditioner or beeswax treatment to keep the leather supple and prevent drying or cracking. This also helps maintain the unique Beeswax finish.
- Polishing: For a refreshed look, a neutral or brown-toned leather polish can be used sparingly.
- Water Protection: While the Beeswax finish offers some natural resistance, applying a water and stain protector spray designed for leather can provide additional defense against moisture.
Natural Crepe Soles
- Cleaning: The crepe sole is prone to picking up dirt and grime. Use a soft brush (like a toothbrush) and warm water with a mild detergent to gently scrub away embedded dirt. Avoid harsh chemicals.
- Maintenance: Be aware that the natural crepe can become sticky in hot weather or on certain surfaces. This is a characteristic of the material.
Nubuck Insoles
- Cleaning: For internal freshness, use a slightly damp cloth with a very small amount of mild soap to wipe the insoles. Allow to air dry completely before wearing.
General Tips
- Air Dry: Always allow your Wallabees to air dry naturally away from direct heat or sunlight if they get wet.
- Shoe Trees: Use cedar shoe trees to help absorb moisture and maintain the shoe's shape when not in use.
- Storage: Store your shoes in a cool, dry place, ideally in a shoe bag to protect them from dust.
