Setup, Compatibility & Care
Initial Wear: The Racemaster Jacket is designed to be worn straight out of the box. Some initial stiffness is normal and will soften as the jacket molds to your body with wear. Ensure the fit allows for comfortable layering if you plan to wear heavier items underneath.
Compatibility: This jacket is a versatile outerwear piece, compatible with a wide range of clothing styles. Its timeless design pairs well with casual, smart-casual, and even some semi-formal ensembles. Consider layering with natural fibers like wool or cotton for optimal comfort.
Care for Waxed Cotton: The key to maintaining your Belstaff Racemaster Jacket's performance and appearance is proper care for its waxed cotton material.
- Cleaning: Do not machine wash, tumble dry, dry clean, or use harsh detergents. Instead, sponge clean with cold water and a soft brush to remove dirt. For tougher marks, use a small amount of mild soap formulated for waxed cotton.
- Re-waxing: To maintain water resistance and the fabric's integrity, the jacket will require re-waxing periodically, typically annually or as needed, depending on usage. Use a proprietary Belstaff or similar high-quality waxed cotton dressing. Apply evenly with a clean cloth, warming the wax slightly for easier application, and then use a hairdryer to ensure it penetrates the fabric.
- Drying: Always allow the jacket to air dry naturally in a well-ventilated area, away from direct heat sources.
- Storage: Store the jacket in a cool, dry place, ideally hung on a wide hanger to maintain its shape. Do not store in a plastic garment bag, as this can trap moisture and lead to mildew.
