Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup
Getting started with your Nike ACG Mountain Fly 2 Low Gore-Tex is straightforward:
- Lace Up: Ensure laces are securely tied for optimal fit and support.
- Break-In Period: While comfortable from the start, a short break-in period on less challenging terrain can help the shoes adapt to your foot shape.
Compatibility
- Activity: Ideal for hiking, trail walking, camping, light backpacking, and urban exploration in varying weather conditions.
- Terrain: Suitable for dirt trails, gravel paths, rocky sections, and wet or muddy surfaces.
- Apparel: Pairs well with outdoor technical clothing, hiking socks, and casual wear. Consider moisture-wicking socks for best comfort.
Care
Proper care extends the life and maintains the performance of your Gore-Tex footwear:
- Cleaning:
- Remove loose dirt with a soft brush or damp cloth.
- For stubborn stains, use lukewarm water and a small amount of mild soap (avoid harsh detergents).
- Gently scrub and rinse thoroughly with clean water.
- Do not machine wash or tumble dry.
- Drying:
- Remove insoles and laces.
- Stuff the shoes with newspaper or paper towels to absorb moisture and help maintain shape. Replace periodically.
- Air dry at room temperature, away from direct heat sources (e.g., radiators, direct sunlight). High heat can damage the Gore-Tex membrane and adhesives.
- Water Repellency (DWR):
- Over time, the outer fabric's Durable Water Repellent (DWR) finish may wear off, causing water to 'wet out' on the surface instead of beading up. This does not mean the Gore-Tex membrane has failed, but it can affect breathability.
- To restore DWR, clean the shoes and then apply a spray-on or wash-in DWR treatment specifically designed for Gore-Tex footwear.
- Storage: Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
