Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup: To attach the RIO Dacron backing, first secure one end to the arbor of your fly reel using a strong arbor knot (like a Uni knot or a Nail knot for a more permanent connection). Then, begin winding the backing onto the reel spool evenly. Ensure that you fill the spool to approximately 1/8 inch from the outer edge to avoid line spill-off. The hollow core design makes it easy to create a loop for connecting your fly line using a nail knot or a similar splicing technique.
Compatibility: This Dacron backing is compatible with most standard fly fishing reels and is designed to work seamlessly with various types of fly lines. It is particularly well-suited for standard weight-forward, double-taper, and sinking fly lines. Available in 20lb and 30lb test strengths, choose the appropriate weight based on the size of the fish you intend to pursue and the capacity of your reel.
Care: To maintain the longevity of your RIO Dacron backing, rinse it with fresh water after each use, especially after fishing in saltwater or brackish environments, to remove salt and grit. Store your reel in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, as prolonged UV exposure can degrade Dacron fibers. Periodically inspect the backing for any signs of wear, fraying, or abrasion, and replace it if any damage is apparent.
