Setup, Compatibility & Care
Getting Started
- Lacing: The Field General comes pre-laced. Adjust the laces to ensure a snug yet comfortable fit. Avoid overtightening, which can restrict circulation and cause discomfort.
- First Wear: Wear your new sneakers indoors for a short period to break them in and ensure comfort. This helps adapt the shoe to your foot shape.
- Protection: Before first outdoor wear, consider applying a high-quality suede protector spray. This will help repel water and stains, preserving the material's integrity.
Compatibility
The Nike Sportswear Field General's versatile, heritage-inspired design makes it compatible with a wide range of casual and streetwear styles:
- Bottoms: Pair with denim jeans (straight, slim, or relaxed fit), cargo pants, chinos, joggers, or even tailored shorts.
- Tops: Looks great with graphic tees, hoodies, casual shirts, light jackets, and knitwear.
- Dresses & Skirts: For a contemporary, sporty-chic look, combine with casual dresses or skirts.
- Accessories: Complement with athletic-inspired accessories like beanies, caps, or shoulder bags.
Care & Maintenance
Maintaining the suede upper is crucial for the longevity and appearance of your Field General sneakers.
- Regular Cleaning: Use a soft-bristled suede brush to gently remove loose dirt and dust. Brush in one direction to maintain the nap of the suede.
- Spot Cleaning: For minor marks, use a specialized suede eraser or a clean, soft cloth dampened with a small amount of distilled white vinegar. Dab gently, do not rub aggressively.
- Deep Cleaning: For tougher stains, use a suede cleaning kit with a dedicated suede cleaner. Always follow the product's instructions and test on an inconspicuous area first.
- Water Protection: Reapply a suede protector spray every few months, especially if you live in a damp climate or wear the shoes frequently.
- Drying: If the shoes get wet, stuff them with paper towels or newspaper to absorb moisture and help them retain their shape. Allow them to air dry at room temperature, away from direct heat or sunlight.
- Storage: Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to prevent fading and material degradation. Shoe trees can help maintain their shape.
- Outsole Cleaning: Use a soft brush or old toothbrush with mild soap and water to clean the gum rubber outsole. Wipe clean with a damp cloth.
Do NOT:
- Machine wash or machine dry.
- Use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
- Submerge in water.
