The Vitra Cork Family, designed by Jasper Morrison, offers a collection of small furniture pieces that highlight the natural advantages of cork. Model A, one of five items in the range, is versatile enough to be used as a stool or a side table due to its low height, light weight, and durability. The cork's velvety texture adds a unique tactile quality that contrasts with the item's inherent toughness. This stool, in a beige cork finish, measures Ø 31 x H 33 cm. Jasper Morrison's 'super normal' design philosophy is evident in his reinterpretation and refinement of classic designs. He chose turned, untreated cork for the Cork Family collection in 2004, a material that is natural, ecological, and durable, shaped without the use of glue. Cork is making a comeback in design and architecture for its recyclability and sustainable harvesting. It is also tactile, soundproof, fireproof, and water-resistant, making the Cork Family stools exceptionally light, durable, and soft to the touch. The design evokes oversized bottle corks with sculptural, minimalist, and expressive forms that emphasize the natural beauty of the material.
