Setup, Compatibility & Care
Getting Started
Your Scarpa Terra GTX boots are designed for comfort straight out of the box.
- Lacing: Ensure laces are threaded evenly through the *improved metal hardware*. Start lacing from the toes upwards, snugging them firmly but not too tightly. Utilize the eyelets to customize fit, especially around the ankle, for optimal support.
- Initial Wear: Wear the boots around the house for a few hours before your first long walk. This allows the soft leather to further mold to your feet, though extensive breaking-in is typically not required for these boots.
Compatibility
- Terrain: Ideal for low-level walking, hill walking, forest trails, and general outdoor use. The robust Vibram sole provides excellent grip on varied surfaces including dirt, gravel, and wet rock.
- Weather: The Gore-Tex waterproof membrane ensures compatibility with wet conditions, rain, and muddy trails. They are breathable enough for warmer weather but also offer insulation for cooler temperatures.
- Socks: For optimal comfort and moisture management, wear technical walking socks designed for hiking. Avoid cotton socks, which retain moisture.
Care and Maintenance
Proper care is essential to maintain the performance and longevity of your Scarpa Terra GTX boots.
- Cleaning: After each use, especially if muddy, remove excess dirt with a soft brush and clean with lukewarm water. Do not use harsh detergents or solvents.
- Drying: Allow boots to dry naturally at room temperature. Avoid direct heat sources like radiators or fires, as this can damage the leather and waterproof membrane. Stuffing them with newspaper can help absorb moisture and maintain their shape.
- Conditioning: Regularly treat the leather upper with a suitable leather conditioner or wax, particularly after cleaning. This helps to keep the leather supple, prevent cracking, and maintain its water repellency. Ensure the product is suitable for Gore-Tex footwear to avoid clogging pores.
- Storage: Store boots in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Ensure they are clean and dry before storing for extended periods.
