Surface Preparation
Ensure all surfaces are clean, dry, and completely free from dust, grease, old sealant residue, or any loose material. For optimal adhesion, a thorough cleaning with isopropyl alcohol or a suitable degreaser is recommended. Masking tape can be applied to either side of the joint for clean, straight lines.
Application Instructions
- Prepare Cartridge: Cut the tip of the cartridge, then screw on the nozzle. Cut the nozzle at a 45-degree angle to achieve the desired bead width, typically matching the joint size.
- Load Gun: Insert the cartridge into a standard sealant gun.
- Apply Sealant: Apply the silicone evenly and continuously into the joint, maintaining consistent pressure on the trigger for a smooth bead.
- Tooling: Tool the sealant within 5-10 minutes of application using a specialized silicone tooling tool or a wetted finger (using soapy water) to achieve a smooth, professional finish and ensure good contact with both substrates.
Curing
The sealant will form a skin quickly, typically within 10-15 minutes. However, full cure, where it achieves maximum strength and water resistance, can take 24-48 hours depending on bead thickness, ambient temperature, and humidity. Ensure good ventilation in the area during the curing process, especially given the acetoxy-curing nature.
Compatibility
- Adheres well to: Glass (without primer), most acrylics, ceramics, vitreous surfaces, painted surfaces, and anodized aluminum.
- Not recommended for: Certain plastics (e.g., some polycarbonates, test first), natural stone (may cause staining), bituminous substrates, PE, PP, PTFE, or surfaces that bleed oils, plasticizers, or solvents. Do not use for structural glazing applications or aquariums.
Care & Maintenance
Once fully cured, the seal is highly resistant to common household cleaning detergents. To maintain its appearance and prolong its mould resistance, regular cleaning of the sealed area with mild, non-abrasive cleaners is recommended. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive scrubbing pads that could damage the sealant surface.
