Product Information

Full details

The Mountain Equipment Lightline Down Jacket is a premier technical insulation piece designed for mountaineers and outdoor enthusiasts facing sub-zero temperatures. It offers exceptional warmth-to-weight performance through 700-fill power RDS-certified down, protected by a windproof and water-resistant Drilite Loft shell. While highly efficient for cold alpine environments, users should note that the stitched-through baffle construction prioritizes mobility and low bulk over the ultimate thermal capacity of more expensive box-wall baffled heavy expedition parkas.

FAQs

Is the Lightline Jacket waterproof?

It features a highly water-resistant Drilite Loft fabric that protects against snow and light precipitation, but it is not classified as a fully seam-sealed waterproof rain jacket.

Can I remove the hood?

Yes, the fully insulated hood is detachable, which is helpful if you want to reduce bulk or weight for specific climbing objectives.

What is the Trace Your Down code?

It is a unique identifier on your jacket that allows you to look up the specific sourcing and quality data of the down used in your garment on the Mountain Equipment website.

How do I wash the jacket?

We recommend professional cleaning or washing by hand/machine with a specialized down cleaner on a delicate cycle, followed by thorough tumble drying at low heat.

Is this jacket suitable for extreme, high-altitude expeditions?

While very warm, it is designed for technical mountaineering. For extreme high-altitude 8000m-style expeditions, a box-wall construction suit or heavier parka is typically recommended.

Troubleshooting

Down leaking through the fabric

Small amounts of down migration is normal in stitched-through jackets. Push the down back into the baffle from the inside; do not pull the feathers out.

Jacket feels flat or cold

The down may have clumped due to moisture. Tumble dry on a low heat setting with dryer balls to break up clumps and restore volume.

Main zipper is difficult to operate

Clear any debris or ice from the zipper teeth. If the zip continues to stick, apply a light, dry silicone lubricant.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Excellent warmth-to-weight ratio for alpine use
  • Fully windproof and highly water-resistant outer shell
  • RDS-certified down with full supply chain transparency
  • Highly adjustable hood and cuffs for a custom fit
  • Durable two-way YKK moulded center zip

Cons

  • Stitched-through baffles create minor cold spots compared to box-wall designs
  • Requires careful cleaning to maintain down loft and performance
  • Less suitable for high-exertion activities due to extreme warmth

Setup, Compatibility & Care

To maximize the longevity of your Lightline Jacket, proper care is essential. When storing the jacket for long periods, keep it uncompressed in a cool, dry place to maintain its loft. When it requires cleaning, use a specialized down wash detergent; avoid standard laundry detergents which can strip the down of its natural oils. Always tumble dry the jacket on a low heat setting with clean tennis balls or dryer balls to help redistribute the down and restore loft. To adjust the fit during use, utilize the dual tether hem drawcords to seal the jacket against your waist, preventing cold air from entering from below. The hood's adjustment cords are designed to be manipulated even while wearing thick winter gloves.
