The activated carbon odor filter typically needs to be replaced every 3 months. However, if you notice odors returning sooner, you may need to replace it more frequently depending on your usage and the type of waste you dispose of.

While you can technically use regular bin bags, they may not fit as snugly and can obstruct the breather vents, making it harder to remove full liners. Custom-fit liners are designed for optimal performance and fit.

The exterior can be wiped clean with a damp cloth and mild detergent. The removable inner buckets can be washed with warm soapy water. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals, especially on the powder-coated finish. For the refurbished item, an initial thorough cleaning with disinfectant is advised.

Refurbished Grade B+ indicates that the item has been inspected and restored to good working condition. First, ensure the odor filter is correctly installed and hasn't reached the end of its lifespan (typically 3 months). Replace the filter if necessary. Thoroughly clean both inner buckets and the main bin with a mild disinfectant. Ensure no food particles or residue are lodged in crevices.

Check that the breather vents on the sides of the inner bucket are clear and not blocked by debris or the liner itself. Avoid overfilling the bin, as this can compress waste and make removal harder. Use Joseph Joseph custom-fit liners (IW2/IW6) as they are designed to work with the breather vents.

Ensure the food waste caddy is correctly oriented when placed inside the main compartments. It should sit snugly on the designated ledge or base. If on a worktop, ensure it's on a flat, stable surface away from edges.

Inspect the lid hinges and the latch mechanism for any obstructions. Ensure that nothing inside the top compartment is preventing the lid from fully closing. If it's a refurbished item, check for any minor alignment issues from previous use and gently adjust if possible, without forcing.

For scratches, if minor, they may be buffed out with a specialized scratch repair kit for powder-coated surfaces (test in an inconspicuous area first). For tape residue, use a gentle adhesive remover like rubbing alcohol or a citrus-based cleaner, applied with a soft cloth. Avoid abrasive scrubbing which can damage the finish.
