Made from full-grain leather and hand-stitched, the penny loafer can be worn all year round. The upper part of the shoe is unlined leather, the heel is made from moulded rubber, and the treated natural leather sole provides durability, flexibility, and water resistance. The Dan loafers are a tribute to the founders of the Sebago brand. The Dan loafer is the most iconic of the penny loafers, with a history that goes way back, as loafers are believed to be the very first shoes worn by humanity, inspired by those of the Native Americans of the state of Maine. The earliest loafers were hand-stitched using the "beef roll" technique, featuring that distinctive little seam around the front of the foot, and they are still hand-stitched today by the finest craftsmen. Whether it’s President John F. Kennedy, James Dean, or Michael Jackson, all have helped to popularise this iconic loafer.
