Setup, Compatibility & Care
Initial Setup
- Lacing: Before your first use, ensure the classic lacing system is properly threaded. Tighten the laces firmly but comfortably, starting from the toes and working your way up. Double-knotting is recommended for a secure fit that won't loosen during activity.
- Fit Check: Wear appropriate socks (e.g., moisture-wicking walking socks) and walk around indoors to confirm a comfortable fit. Your toes should not touch the front of the shoe, and your heel should feel secure without excessive slippage.
Compatibility
The Gelert Horizon Low WP Walking Shoe is compatible with a range of outdoor activities including:
- Day hiking on established trails
- Casual walking and daily wear
- Dog walking
- Light backpacking
- Travel and sightseeing in varying weather conditions
These shoes are designed for light to moderate terrain and wet conditions. They may not provide sufficient support or protection for heavy mountaineering, extreme rock climbing, or very technical trails.
Care Instructions
Proper care will extend the life and maintain the performance of your walking shoes:
- Cleaning: Clean the synthetic upper and outsole with a soft damp cloth. For stubborn dirt, a mild soap solution can be used. Avoid harsh detergents or abrasive brushes, as these can damage the waterproof membrane or material.
- Drying: Allow shoes to air dry naturally at room temperature. Do not place them directly on heat sources like radiators or in direct sunlight, as extreme heat can damage materials and adhesives.
- Storage: Store your shoes in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight when not in use. Ensure they are clean and dry before storing to prevent mildew or odors.
- Maintenance: Periodically check the laces for wear and replace them if necessary. Inspect the outsole for excessive wear, which could affect grip.
