Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup: The breakaway cable should be attached to the towing vehicle's chassis or a designated strong point, separate from the main hitch. The other end, typically featuring a snap hook, attaches to a loop or bracket on the trailer's drawbar. Crucially, the cable should be long enough to allow the trailer to articulate fully during normal turns but short enough to activate the brakes *before* the trailer travels a significant distance if it decouples. Ensure the clevis pin is securely fastened.
Compatibility: This cable is designed for use with caravans, trailers, and horse boxes that have an operational braking system. It is compatible with most standard towing setups featuring a suitable attachment point on the towing vehicle.
Care: Regularly inspect the cable for any signs of wear, fraying, or damage. Check the snap hook and clevis pin for rust or bending. Clean with a damp cloth if necessary and store in a dry place when not in use to prolong its lifespan. Ensure the cable does not drag on the ground during normal operation.
