Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup:
These trees are supplied ready for planting. Choose a location with adequate space for their mature size. Dig a hole twice the width of the pot and to the same depth. Gently remove the tree from its pot, loosen any circling roots, and place it in the hole. Backfill with soil, firm gently, and water thoroughly. For group plantings, space the trees at least 1-2 meters apart to allow for growth and air circulation.
Compatibility:
- Soil: Thrives in most well-drained soils. Avoid waterlogged conditions.
- Sunlight: Prefers full sun to partial shade. Dappled shade is ideal.
- Climate: Hardy and suitable for UK climates.
Care:
- Watering: Water regularly, especially during the first year after planting and during dry spells. Once established, they are relatively drought-tolerant but benefit from occasional watering.
- Pruning: Minimal pruning is required. Remove any dead, damaged, or crossing branches in late winter. Heavy pruning can disrupt the bark's colouration.
- Pest & Disease: Generally resistant, but watch for aphids, especially on new growth. Treat with a suitable insecticidal soap if necessary.
