Full details

This guide is for individuals looking to frame A2 sized posters or artwork. The key benefit is a simple, durable, and visually appealing black wooden frame suitable for wall mounting. A potential caveat is that the specified dimensions are for guidance, and slight variations might occur. This A2 poster frame features a painted black wood construction with a 20mm wide and 14mm deep profile, an acrylic (non-glass) front for safety, and a drop-in back with retaining clips for easy assembly. It includes hanging loops for both landscape and portrait orientations.

FAQs

What material is the front of the frame made from?

The front is made from acrylic (also known as plexiglass), which is a safer and lighter alternative to glass.

Can I use this frame for a picture smaller than A2?

Yes, you can. For smaller pictures, consider using a custom-cut mount board (matting) to fill the space within the frame's viewable aperture.

How do I hang the frame on the wall?

The frame includes hanging loops. You will need to use appropriate wall fixings such as nails or screws (not included) to attach the loops to your wall.

Can I put glass in this frame instead of acrylic?

This frame is designed specifically for the included acrylic front. Using glass may exceed the frame's weight capacity and alter the fit of the back panel.

What are the external dimensions of the frame?

The external dimensions will be slightly larger than the A2 artwork size due to the frame profile (20mm width on each side). The exact external dimensions are approximately 45.8cm x 62.8cm (42cm + 2x2cm and 59cm + 2x2cm).

Is this frame suitable for outdoor use?

No, this frame is designed for indoor use only. Exposure to weather elements can damage the wood and acrylic.

How many frames are included in this pack?

This product listing is for a single frame (Pack of 1).

Troubleshooting

Artwork does not fit perfectly

The frame dimensions are approximate. Ensure your artwork is exactly 42 x 59 cm. Minor adjustments may be needed by trimming the artwork slightly or using a thin mount board if the artwork is too small for the viewable aperture.

Acrylic front is scratched

Clean gently with a soft microfiber cloth and a mild, non-abrasive cleaner. For deeper scratches, replacement acrylic sheets may be necessary.

Frame feels flimsy

Ensure all retaining clips are securely fastened to hold the back panel firmly in place. The frame is designed for standard posters and is not intended for heavy items.

Hanging loops seem loose

Check if the loops are properly attached to the frame. If they are loose, consider reinforcing them with a stronger adhesive or seeking professional assistance for secure wall mounting.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Affordable framing solution for A2 sized items.
  • Lightweight and safer due to acrylic front.
  • Versatile display options with landscape and portrait hanging.
  • Simple to load artwork with drop-in back and retaining clips.
  • Clean, classic black finish complements most decor.

Cons

  • Acrylic front can be prone to scratching if not handled carefully.
  • Dimensions are approximate and may require minor adjustments for a perfect fit.
  • Not suitable for very thick artwork due to the 14mm depth profile.
  • Requires separate wall mounting hardware (e.g., screws, nails).

Setup, Compatibility & Care

Setup:

  1. Carefully remove the frame from its packaging.
  2. Identify the drop-in back panel.
  3. Gently release the retaining clips or fasteners holding the back panel in place.
  4. Remove the back panel and the acrylic front sheet.
  5. Place your A2 sized artwork onto the back panel, ensuring it is correctly aligned.
  6. Carefully place the acrylic front sheet over your artwork.
  7. Reinsert the back panel and secure the retaining clips.
  8. Attach appropriate wall hanging hardware to the hanging loops on the frame.
  9. Mount the frame to the wall in your desired orientation (landscape or portrait).

Compatibility:

  • Artwork Size: Primarily compatible with artwork measuring 42 x 59 cm (A2). The viewable aperture is approximately 58.2 x 40.9 cm, and the rear rebate size is 59.3 x 42 cm. Always check your artwork dimensions against these guides.
  • Wall Mounting: Suitable for most standard wall types when appropriate fixings are used.

Care:

  • Cleaning the Acrylic Front: Use a soft, damp microfiber cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners or paper towels, which can scratch the surface. For stubborn marks, a mild solution of soap and water can be used, followed by wiping with a clean, damp cloth.
  • Cleaning the Frame: Wipe the painted wood frame with a dry or slightly damp cloth. Avoid excessive moisture.
  • Storage: Store in a dry environment away from direct sunlight to prevent fading or damage.
