FAQs

What types of makeup can I use with these brushes?

These brushes are designed for use with all types of eye makeup, including liquid, cream, and powder eyeshadows, as well as eyeliners.

Are the brushes suitable for sensitive skin?

Yes, the brushes feature UltraPlush™ synthetic bristles that are dermatologist tested and safe for sensitive skin.

How often should I clean my brushes?

It is recommended to clean your brushes at least weekly. For optimal hygiene and performance, cleaning after each use is ideal, especially when switching between different product types or colors.

Can I use the sharpener with all types of eyeliner pencils?

The sharpener is designed for standard-sized eyeliner pencils. It may not be suitable for oversized, retractable, or uniquely shaped pencils.

What does 'cruelty-free' mean for this product?

Cruelty-free means that neither the brushes nor the materials used in their production have been tested on animals. Real Techniques is committed to ethical beauty practices.

How do I achieve a smoky eye look with this set?

Use the 368 All-Over Base Brush for a primer or base shadow, the 371 Contour & Define Brush to add depth in the crease, the 370 Liner & Smudge Brush to smudge liner along the lash line, and the 369 Blending Crease Brush to seamlessly blend all the colors together.

Troubleshooting

Brush bristles are splayed or misshapen.

Gently reshape the bristles with your fingers after cleaning and allow them to air dry completely. Avoid harsh washing or excessive heat.

Makeup product is not picking up well on the brush.

Ensure the brush is clean and dry. Product pickup may be reduced on very dense or heavily pressed powders. Try a different application technique or ensure the brush is not overloaded with product from previous use.

Eyeliner pencil does not sharpen properly.

Ensure the pencil is centered within the sharpener's barrel. If using a very soft or smudgy eyeliner, allow it to harden slightly before sharpening. Clean any residual product from the sharpener blades.

Brushes feel rough or scratchy on the skin.

The brushes may require cleaning to remove product buildup. Use a gentle brush cleaner and follow the recommended care instructions. Ensure you are using appropriate pressure during application.

Setup, Compatibility & Care

Setup: This brush set requires no assembly. The brushes are ready for immediate use straight out of the packaging.

Compatibility: The brushes are designed to work with various makeup formulas, including liquid, cream, and powder eyeshadows and eyeliners. The pencil sharpener is compatible with standard-sized eyeliner pencils.

Care: To maintain the performance and longevity of your brushes:

Regular Cleaning: Clean brushes after each use or at least weekly. Use a gentle cleanser (like baby shampoo or specialized brush cleaner) and lukewarm water.
Washing Technique: Swirl the brush head in the cleanser and water, rinse thoroughly until all product is removed. Avoid submerging the entire brush head, as this can damage the glue holding the bristles.
Drying: Gently reshape the bristles and lay the brushes flat or hang them upside down to dry. Do not use heat to dry them.
Sharpener Care: Periodically empty the shavings from the pencil sharpener. Wipe clean with a dry cloth if needed.
