Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup
Installing your Bowland Stone Cathedral Circle Kit involves standard paving practices to ensure stability and longevity:
- Site Preparation: Dig out the area to the required depth, ensuring proper drainage. Lay a compacted sub-base (e.g., MOT Type 1 aggregate).
- Mortar Bed: Apply a suitable bedding mortar mix over the compacted sub-base.
- Laying the Circle: Carefully lay the paving stones according to the circular pattern, using a rubber mallet to firmly bed each stone and ensuring correct levels and falls for drainage. Start from the centre or outer edge as per the kit's instructions.
- Jointing: Once the mortar bed has set, fill the gaps between the stones with a suitable jointing compound or mortar mix to secure them.
Compatibility
- Garden Styles: The 'Weathered York' finish and rough-hewn texture are highly compatible with both traditional country gardens and more contemporary outdoor spaces seeking a natural, earthy feel.
- Existing Patios: The circle can be seamlessly integrated into existing patio areas. For a square or rectangular patio, Bowland Stone Corner Infill Sets (sold separately) can be used to convert the circle into a square formation without needing to cut any stones.
Care
- Routine Cleaning: Regularly sweep the patio to remove loose dirt and debris. For a deeper clean, use a stiff brush and warm water. A pressure washer can be used on a low setting, keeping the nozzle moving to avoid damaging the pointing.
- Stain Removal: For stubborn stains, use a proprietary patio cleaner suitable for natural stone, following the manufacturer's instructions carefully.
- Weed Prevention: To prevent weeds and moss, ensure joints are well-filled. Regular sweeping and occasional application of a weed inhibitor can help maintain a clean look. Avoid harsh chemicals that may discolour the stone.
