FAQs

What type of screws are these covers compatible with?

These screw covers are designed specifically for countersunk screws with a diameter of approximately 4.0mm (or imperial gauge 8).

Can I use these on standard pan-head screws?

No, these covers are not designed for pan-head or other screw types; they require the specific shape of a countersunk screw head to fit correctly.

What are the dimensions of the 14mm screw cover?

The '14mm' refers to the size of the cover, with the outer diameter being approximately 14mm. They are designed to fit screw heads of 4.0mm diameter (gauge 8 imp.).

How many screw covers are included in a pack?

Each pack contains 4 pieces of the 14mm threaded screw covers.

What material are the screw covers made from?

They are made from solid brass with a polished bronze finish.

How do I clean and maintain the bronze finish?

Clean gently with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners to preserve the polished finish. A mild soap solution can be used for tougher marks, followed by thorough drying.

Are there other colors or sizes available?

Yes, TIMCO offers these threaded screw covers in 5 different finishes and 4 different sizes, though this specific product is the 14mm size in polished bronze.

Troubleshooting

Screw cover does not fit securely.

Verify that the screw being used is a countersunk type and matches the specified diameter (4.0mm) and gauge (8 imp.) for this 14mm cover. Ensure the screw is not over-tightened, which can deform the screw head.

Screw cover falls off after installation.

Ensure the screw head is fully seated and the cover is properly aligned over it. For some installations, a small amount of non-permanent adhesive might be considered if the cover is not gripping sufficiently, but this is not standard procedure.

Finish appears dull or discolored.

The polished bronze finish requires gentle cleaning. Use a soft, damp cloth and avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive materials. If dullness persists, a specialized brass polish suitable for plated or lacquered finishes may be needed, applied according to product instructions.

Pros and Cons

  • The polished bronze finish provides a sophisticated and professional look.
  • Simple to install, adding a final touch of quality to projects.

Cons

  • Only compatible with countersunk screw heads.

  • Can add to the overall cost of a project.
  • May require precise alignment for the best visual result.
  • Bronze finish may require occasional maintenance to maintain shine.

Setup, Compatibility & Care

Setup:

  1. Ensure you are using countersunk screws of the correct size (fitting screw diameter of 4.0mm, or imperial gauge 8).
  2. Install your item (e.g., mirror, panel) using the appropriate countersunk screws, ensuring they are securely fastened but not over-tightened.
  3. Place the threaded screw cover over the head of the countersunk screw. The cover is designed to grip the screw head and sit flush.

Compatibility:

  • Screw Type: Specifically designed for countersunk screws.
  • Screw Size: Compatible with screws having a head diameter suitable for the 14mm cover, and specifically fits screw diameter of 4.0mm (or imperial gauge 8).
  • Materials: Suitable for use with glass, mirrors, acrylic, wood, and other rigid substrates where countersunk screws are used for mounting.

Care:

  • Clean with a soft, damp cloth.
  • Avoid abrasive cleaners or scouring pads, as these can damage the polished finish.
  • For stubborn marks, use a mild soap solution and dry thoroughly with a clean, soft cloth.
