FAQs

Can I use this on any type of gutter?

It is designed for standard guttering between 100mm and 116mm; it is not suitable for unusually narrow or extremely wide industrial-style gutters.

Does it require special tools to install?

No tools are required for installation, though you may need wire cutters if you need to trim the length to fit a specific run.

How do I know if this is a genuine Hedgehog product?

Every length of the Hedgehog Gutter Brush is equipped with an official Hedgehog tag.

Will birds nest in the brush?

The structure of the bristles is generally designed to be unattractive to nesting birds, but it should be checked periodically as part of routine home maintenance.

How often should I clean the brush?

While it is a low-maintenance product, we recommend inspecting it once a year, typically in early spring or late autumn.

Troubleshooting

Brush is loose or blowing out of the gutter

Ensure your gutter width is at least 100 mm. If the gutter is wider than 116 mm, the brush may not sit securely.

Water is overflowing during heavy rain

Check that the brush is not buried under layers of trapped silt or needles and clear any blockage at the top of the downpipe.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Significantly reduces the frequency of manual gutter cleaning
  • Easy to install without the need for professional tools
  • Constructed from high-quality, durable materials
  • Fits most standard residential gutter sizes within the 100mm-116mm range

Cons

  • Does not stop fine dust or silt accumulation over time
  • Requires precise measurement of gutter width before purchase
  • Can be difficult to remove if debris becomes wedged deeply within the bristles

Setup, Compatibility & Care

Setup:

  1. Ensure your gutters are completely clean and free of existing debris before installation.
  2. Measure the internal width of your gutter. This product is compatible with widths between 100 mm and 116 mm.
  3. Lay the brush sections into the gutter, ensuring they are placed end-to-end for full coverage.
  4. If you reach a corner or a downpipe, the brush can be bent to follow the contour of the gutter or trimmed with wire cutters.

Compatibility:

  • Compatible with standard uPVC, metal, and concrete guttering that falls within the 100-116mm internal width range.

Care:

  • Periodically inspect the brush to ensure it hasn't shifted.
  • If silt builds up, remove the brush and shake or hose it down to restore full functionality.
