Product Information

Full details

The Ancol Soft Harness & Lead is designed for pet owners seeking a comfortable and secure alternative to traditional collars for their cats, puppies, or rabbits. Its primary benefit is the enhanced support provided by its greater surface area, making it easier to fit, especially on hesitant animals. A potential caveat is the need to carefully check the size against your pet's measurements to ensure a proper fit, as suitability depends on accurate sizing. Key features include breathable mesh, soft edging, an adjustable fit, and a permanently attached lead.

FAQs

What pets is this harness suitable for?

This harness is primarily designed for cats, but can also be suitable for puppies and rabbits. It is crucial to check the size measurements against your pet to ensure a correct and safe fit.

How do I determine the correct size?

Measure your pet's girth around their chest, typically just behind their front legs, and compare this to the 'underneath length measurement' provided for each size (Small: 12cm, Medium: 15cm, Large: 17cm).

Can I detach the lead?

No, the lead is permanently attached to the harness for security and convenience.

Is this harness suitable for training a puppy?

Yes, it can be a comfortable option for introducing puppies to leash walking due to its soft construction and secure fit, helping to prevent discomfort often associated with collars.

How often should I check the harness for wear?

It is recommended to inspect the harness and lead regularly, before each use if possible, for any signs of damage such as fraying or loose stitching.

What is the best way to clean the harness?

The harness can be wiped clean with a damp cloth. For more thorough cleaning, use a mild soap and water solution, rinse well, and allow it to air dry completely.

Does the harness come in different colors?

Yes, this specific model is available in pink and black.

Troubleshooting

Harness is too loose or too tight

Adjust the straps according to the sizing guide. Ensure you can fit two fingers comfortably between the harness and your pet's body. Re-measure your pet if the adjustments are insufficient.

Pet seems uncomfortable or tries to escape

Ensure the harness is correctly fitted and not restricting movement. Introduce the harness gradually and positively. Check for any rough edges or pressure points.

Lead is not securely attached

The lead is permanently attached. If the attachment point seems damaged or weak, discontinue use immediately and contact the retailer.

Harness material feels stiff

This may occur if the harness has been stored for a long time or exposed to extreme temperatures. Try flexing the material gently. If it persists after use, it might be a manufacturing defect.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Provides superior comfort due to soft, breathable materials.
  • Offers better security and support than a standard collar.
  • Adjustable for a personalized and safe fit.
  • Convenient all-in-one solution with an attached lead.
  • Suitable for multiple small pet types beyond cats.

Cons

  • Sizing needs careful attention to ensure a correct fit.
  • May not be suitable for very large or strong pets requiring heavy-duty restraint.
  • The permanently attached lead offers no flexibility in lead length.

Setup, Compatibility & Care Instructions

Setup:

  1. Unclip or unbuckle the harness.
  2. Gently place the harness over your pet's head, ensuring the neck opening is comfortable.
  3. Pass your pet's front legs through the designated loops.
  4. Adjust the straps around the body for a snug, but not tight, fit. You should be able to fit two fingers comfortably between the harness and your pet's body.
  5. Secure the fastenings.
  6. Attach the lead to your pet's walking apparatus, ensuring it is correctly fastened.

Compatibility:

  • Pets: Best suited for cats, small puppies, and rabbits. Always refer to the sizing chart to ensure compatibility with your specific pet's dimensions.
  • Sizes: Available in Small (underneath length 12cm), Medium (15cm), and Large (17cm). The underneath length refers to the measurement from just behind the front legs to the start of the belly strap.

Care:

  • Cleaning: Wipe clean with a damp cloth. For tougher stains, use a mild soap and water solution, then rinse thoroughly and air dry.
  • Washing: Hand wash recommended. Avoid using harsh detergents or bleach.
  • Drying: Air dry completely before use or storage. Do not tumble dry.
  • Inspection: Regularly check the harness and lead for signs of wear and tear, such as fraying or loose stitching. Discontinue use if damage is observed.
