Setup, Compatibility & Care
To begin using your Xtrade Cold Chisel Set, simply remove the tools from the packaging and inspect the striking heads for any factory debris. These tools do not require a complex setup but are most effective when paired with a ball-peen or club hammer of appropriate weight.
Maintenance Tips:
- Cleaning: Wipe the chisels down with a clean, dry cloth after every use to remove metal shavings and dust.
- Corrosion Prevention: Lightly coat the metal shafts with a thin layer of machine oil if storing in a humid environment to prevent oxidation.
- Resharpening: Over time, the edges may dull. Use a sharpening stone or a fine-grit bench grinder (keeping the tool cool to avoid losing the temper) to restore the cutting edge.
- Inspection: Periodically check the handles for cracks or loose fits, and ensure the striking heads are free from mushrooming; if mushrooming occurs, grind the head back to a flat, safe surface.
