Product Information

Full details

This 27-inch wide polyester wadding from MHG Textiles is designed for DIY crafters and upholstery professionals seeking a versatile, high-quality padding material for sewing, quilting, and soft furnishing projects. FAQs

Is this wadding suitable for baby quilts?

Yes, the hypoallergenic properties of the recycled polyester make it a safe choice for nursery items and baby quilts.

Can I use a steam iron on this wadding?

It is best to avoid direct contact with a hot iron. Use a pressing cloth or steam from a distance to avoid melting or compressing the polyester fibers.

Is the wadding fire retardant?

The material is made from standard recycled polyester; please check local regulations if your specific project requires fire-rated materials for commercial upholstery.

How should I store leftover wadding?

Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Avoid compressing it tightly for long periods to prevent permanent creases.

Does it shrink after washing?

Polyester is generally resistant to shrinking, but it is always recommended to wash and dry your fabric project as a whole according to the most delicate component's instructions.

Troubleshooting

Wadding appears thin or flattened

Layer two sheets of wadding together to increase the overall loft and density of the project.

Edges fraying during handling

Use a light spray adhesive or stay-stitching to secure the raw edges before assembly.

Difficult to sew through multiple layers

Use a walking foot attachment on your sewing machine to ensure even feeding of both fabric and wadding layers.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Retains loft and shape well over time
Hypoallergenic and safe for family projects
Easy to clean and dries quickly after washing
Lightweight and breathable material
Environmentally conscious recycled content

Cons

Limited to a 27-inch fixed width
May require professional handling for heavy-duty commercial upholstery
Requires careful layering for projects wider than 27 inches

Setup, Compatibility & Care

To prepare the wadding, measure your project surface and cut using sharp fabric shears to prevent fraying. If you need a width greater than 27 inches, you can butt the edges together and join them using a loose zigzag stitch or a spray adhesive. When sewing into a quilt or garment, ensure your tension settings are adjusted for the extra loft to avoid puckering. For care, this wadding is machine washable; use a gentle cycle with mild detergent. Avoid high-heat tumble drying to prevent compression of the fibers; instead, air dry flat whenever possible to maintain the original loft and shape.
