This Microconnect CAT5e F/UTP (FTP) networking cable is ideal for home and small office users needing reliable network connectivity for devices like routers, modems, and computers. It offers a stable 1000 Mbit/s data transfer rate up to 100MHz, with shielding to combat EMI interference. A key benefit is its durable design with latch protection, preventing connector damage. The main caveat is that it is designed for standard CAT5e performance, not higher-speed networking like CAT6 or CAT6a.

This CAT5e cable supports data transfer rates up to 1000 Mbit/s (Gigabit Ethernet) at frequencies up to 100 MHz.
F/UTP stands for Foil Unshielded Twisted Pair. It means each pair of wires inside the cable is twisted, and there is an overall foil shield around all the pairs to protect against electromagnetic interference (EMI).
While it might physically connect, this CAT5e cable is only rated for 100 MHz and 1000 Mbit/s. For optimal performance on a CAT6 network, a CAT6 cable is recommended.
This cable has a standard PVC jacket and is intended for indoor use in dry environments. It is not designed for outdoor exposure to weather elements, UV radiation, or direct burial.
The conductors are made of Copper-Clad Aluminium (CCA).
The latch protection is a small plastic piece that covers the connector's locking tab. It helps prevent the tab from being accidentally broken off when the cable is pulled or installed in tight spaces.
Please refer to the manufacturer's (Microconnect) official documentation or retailer for specific warranty information, as it can vary.
Ensure both ends of the cable are securely plugged into the respective ports. Check if the link lights on the network devices are active. Try a different Ethernet cable to rule out a faulty cable. Verify that the network devices themselves are functioning correctly.
Verify that the connected devices support speeds of 1000 Mbit/s or higher. Check for physical damage to the cable or connectors. Ensure the cable is not routed too close to sources of strong electromagnetic interference. If the cable is old, consider replacing it with a new CAT5e or higher-rated cable.
The latch protection is designed to minimize this, but if it occurs, the cable might still function if the connector makes good contact. However, it is more prone to disconnection. Handle new cables carefully around the connector tab. If the tab is broken, the cable should ideally be replaced for secure connectivity.
