FAQs

What does DK mean?

DK stands for Double Knit, which refers to the weight of the yarn. DK yarn is a medium-weight yarn.

Can I use a different type of yarn?

While the pattern is designed for DK yarn, you may be able to substitute other yarns. However, your gauge may vary, and the finished garment's appearance will be different. It is recommended to knit a tension square.

What if I make a mistake?

Don't worry! Mistakes are a part of knitting. You can often unravel your work back to the mistake and correct it. For more complex errors, consider seeking advice from a more experienced knitter.

How do I choose the right size?

Measure your bust and refer to the size chart provided in the pattern. Choose the size that corresponds to your bust measurement.

Where can I buy the yarn?

Yarn can be purchased at most craft stores, both in-person and online.

What needles should I use?

The pattern will specify the needle size. If you are using a different yarn, check the yarn label.

Troubleshooting

Pattern is unclear.

Reread the pattern instructions carefully. Consult online resources or a knitting expert for clarification.

Gauge/Tension is incorrect.

Knit a tension square using the recommended yarn and needles. Adjust needle size as needed to match the pattern's gauge.

Ran out of yarn.

Double-check the yarn quantity needed for your size before beginning. Purchase more yarn of the same color and dye lot.

Setup, Compatibility & Care

To begin, you'll need the King Cole 5990 pattern leaflet, double knit (DK) yarn, and appropriate knitting needles (size will depend on the yarn used). Ensure your needles are clean and in good condition. Follow the pattern instructions carefully, paying close attention to gauge and tension. Once completed, the finished garment should be hand-washed in cool water and laid flat to dry.
