A clock spring (also known as a spiral cable) is a rotary electrical connector that allows the steering wheel to turn while maintaining an electrical connection to the vehicle's systems, such as the airbag, horn, and steering wheel controls.
Clock springs can fail over time due to wear and tear. A faulty clock spring can disrupt the electrical connection, causing the airbag light to illuminate, the horn to fail, or steering wheel controls to stop working. Replacing it ensures these crucial safety and convenience features continue to function.
Common symptoms include the airbag light being on, a non-functional horn, or non-working steering wheel controls. Also, sometimes you may hear a clicking or scratching noise when turning the steering wheel.
While it is possible to install a clock spring yourself, it is often a complex process. Professional installation is highly recommended to ensure the part is correctly installed, and all related systems function properly.
Incorrect installation can lead to several issues, including the airbag not deploying in an accident, the horn not working, or damage to other electrical components. It can also cause the steering wheel to be misaligned.
You can purchase this clock spring from various automotive parts retailers and online stores. Ensure you are buying from a reputable seller, like the seller mentioned in the product information.
Check with the seller for warranty details. The product information mentions a 60-day returns policy and a no-quibble replacement for damages.
The clock spring may be faulty. Have a mechanic check the connections and replace the clock spring if necessary.
Check the horn fuse and wiring. If they are okay, the clock spring might be the issue. Get it inspected by a mechanic.
Inspect the wiring connections within the steering wheel. If those are fine, the clock spring may be faulty, requiring replacement.
