Setup, Compatibility & Care
Sowing Seeds: Sow seeds indoors 4-6 weeks before the last frost or directly outdoors after all danger of frost has passed. Aim for a soil temperature of 65-75°F (18-24°C). Sow seeds about 1/4 inch deep and keep the soil consistently moist.
Location: French marigolds prefer a location with full sun (at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day).
Soil: They thrive in well-drained soil. Avoid waterlogged conditions.
Watering: Water regularly, especially during dry periods, but allow the soil surface to dry slightly between waterings. Avoid overhead watering if possible to reduce the risk of fungal diseases.
Care: Once established, marigolds are relatively low-maintenance. Pinching back the first few buds can encourage a bushier plant with more blooms. Deadhead spent flowers to promote continuous flowering throughout the season.
Compatibility: These marigolds are compatible with most annual and perennial garden plants. They are often used in vegetable gardens as companion plants to deter certain pests.
