Bias binding is fabric cut on the diagonal (the bias) of the weave. This makes it more flexible and able to curve smoothly around corners and edges without becoming stiff or puckering, which is ideal for finishing raw edges.

This indicates the dimensions of the bias binding tape. '12mm' is the width of the tape when unfolded, and '5m' is the total length of the tape on the spool or package.

While it can be used on many fabrics, its 12mm width is best suited for medium-weight materials. For very thick fabrics, you might find a wider binding or a different application method works better.

While Hemline aims for consistency, slight variations in dye lots can occur. For projects requiring a perfect color match, it's advisable to purchase all the necessary tape at once.

You can attach it by machine or by hand. Typically, you'll align the raw edges, sew it in place, then fold it over the raw edge and secure it on the other side. Many tutorials are available online for specific techniques like single-fold or double-fold binding.

The polycotton blend offers the advantages of both materials: the durability and wrinkle resistance of polyester, combined with the breathability and comfort of cotton. It also makes the tape easier to care for.

Ensure the tape is not stretched taut as you sew. Clip the seam allowance of the binding at regular intervals when working around sharp curves. Use a walking foot on your machine if available.

Try using a stronger needle, such as a denim or microtex needle, appropriate for the fabric thickness. Alternatively, consider using a slightly narrower binding or applying it in two separate steps (first one layer, then the second).

Before use, wash the bias binding tape separately to check for any color bleeding. If bleeding occurs, use a color catcher sheet during subsequent washes or consider an alternative binding for delicate fabrics.
