Setup (Installation):
Installation of a handbrake cable is a mechanical procedure that typically requires:
- Lifting the Vehicle: Safely support the vehicle on jack stands.
- Accessing the Cable: Remove any necessary underbody panels or components to reach the cable.
- Disconnecting Old Cable: Unhook the old cable from the handbrake mechanism and the brake caliper or drum.
- Installing New Cable: Route the new FAI Handbrake Cable FBC0150 in the same path as the old one, ensuring it is not kinked.
- Connecting New Cable: Securely attach the new cable to the handbrake lever assembly and the brake system.
- Adjusting Cable Tension: Adjust the cable at the handbrake lever or relevant linkage to achieve the correct tension. Refer to the vehicle's workshop manual for specific adjustment procedures.
- Testing: Lower the vehicle and test the handbrake operation thoroughly.
Professional installation is highly recommended if you are not experienced with automotive brake systems.
Care:
Handbrake cables are generally maintenance-free. However, ensure the cable operates smoothly without binding. Keep the area around the cable and its connection points clean. Periodically check the cable for any signs of fraying, corrosion, or damage, especially after driving in harsh conditions (e.g., heavy salt exposure). If any damage is noted, replace the cable immediately.
