Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup
Setting up your TP-Link Deco E4 system is straightforward and guided by the Deco app.
- Download the Deco App: Search for 'TP-Link Deco' in your app store and download it.
- Unpack Your Units: Take out all three Deco E4 units and their power adapters.
- Connect the Main Unit: Connect one Deco E4 unit to your modem using an Ethernet cable. Plug it into the power outlet.
- Launch the App: Open the Deco app on your smartphone or tablet and log in with your TP-Link ID or create a new one.
- Follow On-Screen Instructions: The app will walk you through setting up the main Deco unit, including creating your Wi-Fi network name and password.
- Add Additional Units: Once the first unit is set up, the app will prompt you to place and power on the other Deco units. Place them strategically to maximize coverage, then follow the app to add them to your mesh network.
Compatibility
- Backward Compatibility: The Deco E4 works with all Wi-Fi standards (802.11a/b/g/n/ac) and is compatible with any internet service provider (ISP).
- Deco Mesh Family: All Deco units, including the Deco E4, are compatible with other Deco models. This means you can mix and match different Deco units (e.g., adding a Deco M5 or X20) to expand or upgrade your existing Deco mesh network.
- Router/AP Modes: Can be configured as a primary router or an access point to extend an existing wired network.
Care
- Placement: Place Deco units in open, central locations, avoiding obstructions like large metal objects, thick walls, or appliances that emit electromagnetic interference (e.g., microwaves, cordless phones).
- Ventilation: Ensure the units have adequate ventilation; do not cover them or place them in enclosed spaces to prevent overheating.
- Cleaning: Gently wipe the exterior of the units with a dry, soft cloth. Avoid using liquid cleaners or abrasive materials.
- Firmware Updates: Regularly check for and install firmware updates through the Deco app. These updates often include performance improvements, security enhancements, and new features.
