Product Information

Full details

The Stihl PB 10 bypass pruning shears are professional-grade tools designed for gardeners and landscapers who require precise, clean cuts on medium-sized branches. These 60cm shears provide significant leverage and reach, making them ideal for routine garden maintenance, though their length can be slightly unwieldy for very tight, dense shrubbery compared to smaller hand pruners.

FAQs

Are these shears suitable for left-handed users?

Yes, the ergonomic grip and bypass design are symmetrical enough to be used comfortably by both left and right-handed individuals.

What is the maximum cutting diameter?

These shears are designed for medium-sized branches; while specific capacity depends on wood hardness, they are intended for stems within the typical bypass pruning range of up to 35-40mm.

Can I replace the blades?

Stihl components are typically serviceable; consult your local authorized Stihl dealer for replacement blade availability.

Do the handles extend?

No, these are fixed-length 60cm shears, which provides greater structural rigidity compared to telescoping models.

What kind of oil should I use for maintenance?

A general-purpose machine oil or a specific pruning tool lubricant is recommended to protect the metal.

Troubleshooting

Shears feel sticky or gummed up

Clean the blade surface thoroughly with a sap remover and apply a light coat of lubricant.

Cuts are tearing rather than slicing

The blade has likely lost its edge; use a sharpening stone to restore the cutting edge angle.

Handles feel loose

Check the central pivot bolt; ensure it is tightened appropriately while still allowing smooth blade movement.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Excellent leverage for cutting thicker stems
  • Lightweight construction reduces user fatigue
  • High-quality forged steel ensures blade longevity
  • Comfortable ergonomic grips for extended pruning sessions
  • Sap groove prevents jamming

Cons

  • 60cm length is not suitable for extremely tight spaces
  • Requires manual sharpening to maintain peak performance
  • Higher investment compared to residential-grade shears

Setup, Compatibility & Care

These shears are ready for immediate use out of the box. To maintain the tool's longevity:

  1. Cleaning: After every use, wipe the blades with a cloth soaked in a light lubricant or resin solvent to remove sap and debris.
  2. Sharpening: Periodically sharpen the cutting edge using a fine-grit whetstone, following the original blade angle.
  3. Lubrication: Apply a thin layer of machine oil to the pivot point and blades before storing to prevent oxidation.
  4. Storage: Always store in a dry, covered area to prevent handle corrosion and blade dulling.
