Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup: This chisel requires no setup beyond ensuring it is securely held before striking with a hammer or mallet. Always ensure the hammer face is clean and strikes the end of the chisel shank squarely.
Compatibility: The Draper 99173 is designed for use with standard striking tools such as ball-peen hammers or engineers' mallets. It is compatible with most masonry materials including concrete, brick, and stone.
Care:
- Cleaning: After each use, wipe the cutting edge and shank clean of debris and dust. A damp cloth can be used, followed by drying.
- Sharpening: If the cutting edge becomes dull, it can be re-sharpened using a suitable grinding wheel or sharpening stone. Ensure the steel is not overheated during sharpening to maintain its temper.
- Storage: Always store the chisel with the protective rubber blade guard fitted. Keep it in a dry environment to prevent rust.
- Inspection: Regularly inspect the cutting edge and hand guard for any signs of damage. Discontinue use if cracks or significant wear are observed.
