Full details

The SAMTEK Emergency Fire Blanket is an essential safety tool for homeowners, caravan owners, and office managers looking to mitigate small-scale fire risks. By effectively smothering liquid and oil fires, it provides a vital layer of protection that can prevent minor kitchen accidents from escalating. While it is designed for rapid deployment and ease of use, it is important to note that this blanket is intended for early-stage fires only and should not be used on large, out-of-control blazes.

FAQs

Can I reuse the fire blanket after using it on a small fire?

No, this is a single-use safety device. Once the blanket has been exposed to fire, it must be replaced to ensure future safety.

Is this blanket safe for children to handle?

The material is non-toxic and safe for contact, but it should only be deployed by adults during an actual emergency.

Can I use this on electrical fires?

While the blanket can smother small electrical sparks, it is primarily designed for liquid and oil-based fires. Always disconnect power if safe to do so.

What is the best way to mount the case?

Use a sturdy hook or screw to hang it via the integrated loop in an area that is easily reachable within your primary living space.

How do I know if it is still in good condition?

Perform a visual check to ensure the casing is not torn and the hanging loop is secure. If the case is damaged, replace the unit.

Troubleshooting

Pull-tapes are stuck inside the case

Ensure the blanket is stored with the tapes facing downward for gravity-assisted release; if stuck, carefully slide the blanket out manually.

Blanket feels dusty or dirty

Wipe the exterior of the storage case only. If the internal blanket becomes heavily contaminated, it should be replaced.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Simple, intuitive operation requiring no technical training
Effective at handling oil and liquid fires common in kitchens
Provides physical heat insulation for people or pets
High-visibility red case for quick location in emergencies
Compact wall-mountable design saves space in small areas

Cons

One-time use only; must be replaced after deployment
Not suitable for large-scale structural or electrical fires
Limited coverage area of 1m x 1m
Wall-mounting hardware not included in all installations

Setup, Compatibility & Care

To ensure the fire blanket is effective when needed, place it in a location that is easily accessible but away from the immediate hazard zone (e.g., just outside the kitchen, rather than directly over the stove). Use the included hanging loop to attach the pouch to a wall hook or nail. Periodically inspect the red storage case to ensure the pull-tapes are visible and unobstructed. The blanket material itself does not require regular maintenance, but the storage case should be wiped down with a clean, dry cloth to keep it free of dust and grease buildup. Never attempt to wash or dry-clean the blanket, as this could compromise its flame-retardant properties.
