Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup:
- Remove Old Handle: Carefully remove the old handle from the tool head. This may involve drilling out wedges or cutting away residual handle material.
- Prepare Tool Head: Clean the eye of the tool head to ensure a snug fit for the new handle. Remove any rust or debris.
- Fit New Handle: Insert the new handle into the tool head. Ensure it is seated firmly and sits flush.
- Secure Handle: Fit a wedge (often sold separately or may be included with some tool heads) into the slot at the top of the handle to secure it within the tool head. Hammer the wedge firmly until the handle is tightly secured.
- Trim Handle (if necessary): If the handle is too long, carefully trim it to the desired length.
Compatibility:
This handle is designed as a spare for Ochsenkopf forestry hatchets and other compatible tools that share the same head eye dimensions. Always verify the eye size of your tool head matches the dimensions of this handle's top section before purchase. It is designed to meet DIN 68340 standards, suggesting compatibility with tools adhering to similar specifications.
Care:
- Cleaning: Wipe the handle with a slightly damp cloth to remove dirt and dust. Avoid soaking the wood in water.
- Maintenance: Periodically check the tightness of the handle in the tool head. Re-wedge if necessary.
- Storage: Store tools with this handle in a dry environment to prevent the wood from drying out or absorbing excessive moisture, which can lead to cracking or warping.
