The Timco Carriage Bolt is an essential hardware solution for DIY enthusiasts and professionals tasked with securing timber structures or attaching ironmongery to wood. Featuring a signature domed head and a square anti-spin shoulder, these bolts provide a clean, flush finish while preventing rotation during tightening. While these zinc-plated fasteners are highly effective for dry, indoor, or low-humidity environments, they are not recommended for high-moisture or coastal applications where salt air could accelerate corrosion.

Yes, provided the environment is not high-humidity or coastal. The zinc plating is excellent for general outdoor timber use.
You only need a drill for the pilot hole, a mallet to seat the head, and a standard socket or wrench for the nut.
Yes, they work well with standard construction timber, including pressure-treated wood.
The square shoulder acts as an anti-spin mechanism that locks into the wood, allowing you to tighten the nut without the bolt spinning.
They are fully threaded up to and including 150mm. Bolts longer than this feature partial threading.
Clean the surface and apply a rust inhibitor. However, if the rust is extensive, replace the hardware to maintain structural safety.
Ensure the square shoulder is properly seated into the timber. Use a mallet to tap the bolt head deeper if necessary.
Check that the hole is not obstructed with debris and confirm the drill bit size is appropriate for the bolt diameter.
Ensure you are using the original nut provided with the bolt and check the threads for any debris or timber shavings.
To install these bolts effectively, use a drill bit that matches the diameter of the bolt shank. Once the hole is drilled, tap the bolt through the timber until the square shoulder is embedded flush against the surface. Slide the hex nut onto the threaded end and tighten it using a standard wrench or socket.
For care and maintenance, keep the bolts in a dry environment. If you notice any signs of surface oxidation due to accidental exposure to moisture, treat the area with a silicone-based lubricant or a rust-inhibitor spray. Do not use these bolts in high-salinity or permanently damp areas, as the zinc coating is designed specifically for standard, protected interior or dry outdoor applications.
