It works based on the principle of radiative pressure. When light strikes the dark sides of the vanes, they absorb more energy and heat up more than the lighter sides. This causes air molecules near the dark vanes to be expelled faster, creating a thrust that makes the vanes spin. The black vanes are pushed away from the light source.
