Leaf springs, one of the oldest suspension systems, have remained prevalent due to their ability to evenly distribute loads across the chassis. The two primary types are multi-leaf, featuring stacked, differently-sized leaves with friction between them during operation, and parabolic springs, designed for low internal friction and minimum weight with fewer leaves in a parabolic shape to minimize bending stress. Critical to safety, the eyes of the leaf springs must be strong, and U-bolts secure the spring's center to the vehicle axle. Manufacturing involves leaf preparation, bending, heat treatment, shot peening, assembly, presetting, and surface treatment for strength and corrosion protection, adhering to quality assurance and environmental standards. For safety and OE handling, it is recommended to replace leaf springs in axle pairs and to follow a recognized repair manual for replacement. Always replace U-bolts (spring clamps) and ensure they are properly tightened to the correct torque, as any breakage between them indicates insufficient tightening and will void the warranty.
