The Ritchey WCS C220 stem is designed for road and gravel cyclists who prioritize a balance of lightweight performance and structural integrity. Its defining feature is a 220-degree handlebar clamp interface that distributes stress evenly, making it an excellent choice for riders using lightweight carbon handlebars who are worried about crush damage. While its installation is more efficient than older closed-face designs, users should be prepared for the specific orientation requirements of the clamp during the mounting process.

Yes, the 220-degree clamp design is specifically engineered to distribute pressure evenly, making it safe for most carbon handlebars when installed with proper torque.
This stem is designed for 31.8mm diameter handlebars.
While it is primarily designed for road and gravel, the WCS line is durable enough for XC-style mountain biking, though specific trail/enduro stems may offer more robust features.
It means the stem can be mounted with a 6-degree upward angle for a higher bar position or flipped for a 6-degree downward angle to achieve a lower, more aerodynamic position.
Yes, the stainless steel hardware is high quality, but if bolts are stripped or damaged, they can be replaced with standard M5 stem bolts of the same length.
Verify that all bolts were tightened to the recommended torque specifications using a torque wrench.
Remove the stem faceplate, clean the contact surfaces, apply a light layer of carbon paste if using carbon parts, and retorque the bolts.
To install the C220, ensure your handlebar is clean and free of debris. When installing the bars, slide the bar into the clamp from the side, then rotate the clamp plate into position. It is highly recommended to use a calibrated torque wrench to tighten the stainless steel bolts to the manufacturer-specified torque, typically avoiding exceeding 5Nm to prevent component fatigue. Regularly inspect the bolts for signs of wear and keep the stem clean by wiping it with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid harsh chemicals that could compromise the matte finish.
