Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup
Installing your Bowland Stone Cathedral Circle Kit requires careful preparation to ensure longevity and an even finish.
- Prepare the Base: Excavate the area to the required depth, ensuring good drainage. Lay a compacted sub-base (e.g., MOT Type 1) followed by a bedding layer of sharp sand or a suitable paving mortar.
- Lay the Central Stone: Begin by accurately placing the central stone, ensuring it is level and at the desired height.
- Follow the Pattern: Refer to the kit's laying guide or pattern to arrange subsequent stones outwards from the center. Each ring typically consists of varying stone sizes.
- Check Level and Falls: Continuously check levels with a spirit level, ensuring a slight fall for water drainage away from any buildings.
- Jointing: Once all stones are laid and stable, brush in a suitable jointing compound (e.g., sand or resin mortar) to secure the slabs and prevent weed growth.
Compatibility
This circle kit is highly compatible with a variety of outdoor designs. Its Weathered Moss color and rustic texture allow it to blend seamlessly with:
- Existing Patios: Can be integrated into square or rectangular patio designs to break up uniformity.
- Garden Styles: Suitable for traditional cottage gardens, rustic landscapes, and even modern gardens seeking a touch of natural elegance.
- House Styles: Its versatile aesthetic complements both classic and contemporary house designs.
Care
Maintaining the beauty of your Cathedral Circle Kit is straightforward:
- Regular Cleaning: Sweep regularly to remove leaves, dirt, and debris. This prevents organic matter from breaking down and staining the surface.
- Washing: For deeper cleaning, use water and a stiff brush. A mild, pH-neutral detergent can be used for stubborn marks. Avoid harsh chemicals or high-pressure washers, which can damage the surface or jointing.
- Moss and Algae: If moss or algae appear, use a proprietary patio cleaner specifically designed for concrete paving. Always follow the product's instructions and test on an inconspicuous area first.
- Sealing (Optional): Applying a paving sealant can offer additional protection against stains and help maintain color vibrancy, though the weathered look is part of its design.
