FAQs

Can I use Sharp Sand for bricklaying?

Sharp sand is typically used for concrete mixes and paving. For bricklaying, soft building sand is generally preferred as it is finer and more workable.

How much area does one bag cover?

A single 25kg bag covers approximately 1 square meter, assuming a standard bedding depth.

Is this sand safe for children's play areas?

No, this is a coarse construction sand. You should use specialized play sand for sandpits to avoid potential skin abrasion.

Can I use this for drainage around pipes?

Yes, its coarse texture makes it an excellent choice for drainage layers and backfilling around conduits.

Does the sand contain salt?

It is a natural product and may contain trace minerals, but it is washed and graded for standard building use.

Troubleshooting

The sand feels damp inside the bag

This is normal for outdoor aggregates stored in humid conditions; allow the sand to air-dry slightly if you require a specific moisture content for your mix.

Color mismatch between two bags

Since this is a natural quarried product, variations are expected. If color uniformity is critical, mix the contents of both bags together to blend the tones.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Easy to transport and maneuver due to the manageable 25kg bag size
Provides superior stability for block paving and flagstones
Excellent drainage properties compared to finer building sands
Perfect for small-scale repairs or localized landscaping projects

Cons

Not suitable for fine pointing or mortar joints requiring a smooth finish
Natural product means inconsistent color across different batches
Requires proper mixing ratios to achieve optimal concrete strength

Setup, Compatibility & Care

To ensure the best results, clear the intended area of all debris and vegetation before laying your base. When using for paving, spread the sand evenly and screed it to a level height to ensure a uniform surface.

Compatibility:

Suitable for use with cement for concrete mixes.
Compatible with most natural stone, concrete, and clay paving materials.

Storage:

Store bags in a cool, dry place to prevent moisture absorption, which can cause the sand to clump.
Keep bags off the ground if possible, ideally on a pallet, to protect against ground dampness.
