Product Information

Full details

The Edding 4-8880112 Graphit Drill Hole Marker is designed for professionals in structural engineering, manufacturing, and maintenance who need precise, visible markings on challenging surfaces and in hard-to-reach areas. Its key benefit is the thin, long mouthpiece that allows for accurate marking inside deep holes or on cut edges, coupled with a unique Graphit ink for excellent contrast. A minor caveat is that its specialized nature means it's less suited for general-purpose writing.

FAQs

What is the purpose of the long, thin mouthpiece?

The long and thin mouthpiece (42 mm long, 5.5 mm thin) is specifically designed to reach and mark accurately inside deep holes, cut edges, or other confined spaces where standard markers cannot reach.

What materials can this marker be used on?

It is suitable for marking on almost all materials, including wood, metal, plastic, tiles, cardboard, and stone.

Is the ink permanent?

The Graphit ink provides clear visibility and is designed for precise marking. While not explicitly stated as permanent, it is intended for professional applications requiring durable marks during work processes.

How do I refill the marker?

The marker uses replaceable mines. You can refill it using Edding 8881 Mechanical Pencil refills, which are available separately in graphite and assorted colors.

Does the marker come with extra mines?

The product comes ready-to-use with one universal graphite mine. Additional refill mines are available for purchase separately.

Can I use colored mines with this marker?

Yes, the marker is refillable with Edding 8881 Mechanical Pencil refills, which are available in assorted colors for different surfaces.

What are the dimensions of the marking tip?

The mouthpiece is approximately 42 mm long and 5.5 mm thin, allowing for precise marking in deep or narrow areas. The replaceable mine has a diameter of 2.8 mm.

Troubleshooting

Marker not marking or mark is faint.

Check if the graphite mine is extended sufficiently. If dull, use the integrated sharpener. Ensure the surface is clean and dry. Replace the mine if it is worn down completely.

Mine breaks easily.

Avoid excessive pressure when marking. Ensure the mine is properly sharpened to a fine point. Use the marker on appropriate surfaces; very rough or uneven surfaces can stress the mine.

Ink smearing on the surface.

Allow the mark to dry for a few moments before handling the material, especially on non-porous surfaces. Ensure the surface is free from oils or contaminants that might prevent proper adhesion.

Sharpener in holster not working effectively.

Ensure the mine is clean before inserting into the sharpener. Remove any graphite debris that may be clogging the sharpener mechanism.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Excellent reach into deep and narrow holes.
  • High contrast marking on various difficult surfaces.
  • Durable aluminum shaft for professional use.
  • Convenient integrated sharpener in the holster.
  • Refillable with multiple color options for different applications.

Cons

  • Ink is specialized for marking, not general writing.
  • Mine is thin and may require careful handling.
  • Refill mines and colored options are sold separately.
  • Primarily designed for precision marking, not broad coverage.

Setup, Compatibility & Care

Setup: The Edding 4-8880112 comes ready to use with an integrated graphite mine. To begin, extend the mine by gently twisting the end of the marker. If the mine becomes dull, use the integrated sharpener in the holster to restore a fine point. Ensure the cap is replaced after use to prevent drying.

Compatibility: This marker is compatible with a wide range of materials including wood, metal, plastic, tiles, cardboard, and stone. It is designed to work with Edding 8881 Mechanical Pencil refills, available separately in graphite and assorted colors.

Care: Store the marker in its holster in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. To clean the exterior, use a slightly damp cloth. Avoid using solvents or harsh chemicals, as they may damage the plastic or aluminum components. Ensure the tip is clean after use, especially if marking dusty or oily surfaces.
