Proto-Pasta Rustable Magnetic Iron Filament is ferromagnetic. It reacts to magnets and behaves like pure iron! The plastic-bound iron retains a solid, matt cast metal finish when printed, but can rust if needed. This filament is interesting because it has iron haptics with 1.5 times the density of standard PLA and can rust to create modern objects in a rusty patina in a few simple steps. It is attracted by magnets (neodymium type recommended for increased attraction) and has induction at magnetic saturation of approximately 0.15 Tesla. Its relative transmission (to air) is between 5 and 8 regardless of frequency up to 1 MHz, and its open area is between 62E-7 and 100E-7 H / m, regardless of frequency up to 1 MHz. It also offers higher thermal conductivity than standard plastics and is easy to print like PLA with less nozzle wear than steel or carbon fiber. This filament is more abrasive than standard PLA, so using hardened nozzles with a larger diameter (0.6 mm) made of stainless steel or nickel-plated nozzles from MicroSwiss is recommended. Available in diameters of 1.75 and 2.85 (3) mm. 125 g are delivered loose as containers, and 500 g are supplied on a coil. It is suitable for most PLA compatible printers such as Lulzbot, Makerbot, FlashForge, Dremel, Ultimaker, Printbot and more! FE-PLA is a bit more brittle than standard PLA in filament form and requires special care when handling. The processing is comparable to standard PLA, and no heated bed is required. For smaller nozzles and/or Bowden extruders, the pressure may be more uneven. Printers with direct drive extruders with 0.6 mm nozzles are recommended, and a pressure temperature of 190-210 ° C (similar to standard PLA or slightly cooler) is preferred for the best results.
