The Primaflow Lockshield Key is an essential tool for professional plumbers and homeowners needing to control the flow of water through lockshield bibcocks and stopcocks. Its primary benefit is providing a secure way to adjust or isolate water supplies on valves designed to be tamper-resistant. A key caveat is that this tool is specifically engineered for standardized valve spindles, so it may not be compatible with non-standard or older, proprietary valve designs.

It is designed specifically for lockshield valves, which typically have a different spindle profile than standard manual radiator valves.
It is crafted from durable alloys intended for standard plumbing usage to ensure a balance between weight and strength.
Only if your garden tap is a lockshield-style bibcock; it will not work on standard handle-operated taps.
If the spindle is stripped, the valve itself may need to be replaced by a qualified plumber, as the key will no longer be able to grip the metal effectively.
The key itself does not require lubrication, but keeping the valve spindle clean and lightly oiled can make operation smoother.
Ensure the key is pushed fully onto the spindle and that the valve is not coated in excessive mineral deposits or paint.
The valve may be seized due to age. Apply a small amount of penetrating oil to the spindle and wait ten minutes before attempting to turn it again.
To use the key, simply align the internal socket with the valve stem. Ensure the key is fully seated before applying force to avoid stripping the metal. This tool is compatible with most standard residential lockshield valves and stopcocks. To maintain the tool, wipe it clean of water or debris after use to prevent oxidation. While the key is built to be long-lasting, avoid using mechanical levers or pipe grips to apply extra force to the key handle, as this could damage the valve spindle itself.
