Setup, Compatibility & Care
To ensure success, plant your Fargesia in moist, well-drained soil. When planting from the 14cm pot, dig a hole twice the width of the root ball and incorporate organic matter to improve soil structure. While it is hardy once established, it is critical to keep the soil consistently damp during the first growing season. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring to encourage new growth. If keeping the plant in a container, ensure the pot has adequate drainage holes and is large enough to prevent the plant from becoming root-bound over time. Pruning is rarely necessary but can be used to remove old, woody canes and maintain the desired density.
