FAQs
Is the Mercia Overlap Reverse Apex Shed waterproof?
The shed is designed to be weather-resistant with overlap cladding, a solid sheet roof with felt, and an initial water-based dip treatment. However, to maintain its waterproof qualities and the 10-year anti-rot warranty, it requires annual treatment with a high-quality timber preservative.
What type of base is required for this shed?
A firm and perfectly level base is essential for the shed's stability, longevity, and proper door/window operation. Suitable bases include concrete slabs, a paved area, or a purpose-built timber frame base.
Can I paint this shed?
Yes, once assembled and after its initial water-based dip treatment has dried, you can paint the shed using a high-quality exterior timber paint. This allows for customization and can further enhance weather protection.
How difficult is it to assemble the shed?
The shed is designed for self-assembly and comes with comprehensive instructions. It is strongly recommended that two people undertake the assembly process to ensure safety and ease of construction.
Does the shed come with a lock?
The shed features a pad-bolt mechanism on the single door for basic security. You will need to provide your own padlock to fully secure the shed.
What is the warranty for this shed?
The Mercia Overlap Reverse Apex Shed comes with a 10-year anti-rot warranty. This warranty is conditional upon annual treatment of the timber with a high-quality preservative that weatherproofs and protects against rot.
Are there any opening windows on this shed?
No, this specific model features one fixed styrene glazed window. There are no opening windows.
Troubleshooting
Door does not close or align properly
Ensure the shed is built on a perfectly firm and level base. An uneven base can cause the frame to twist, leading to door misalignment. Check all frame fixings for tightness.
Water ingress or dampness inside the shed
Inspect the roof felt for any tears or gaps, particularly around the edges and ridge. Ensure all overlap cladding boards are correctly positioned and secured. Apply a suitable timber sealant to exterior joints if necessary. Confirm annual timber treatment has been applied.
Wood developing rot or decay
This often results from insufficient or irregular annual timber treatment. For localized rot, consider wood hardeners or fillers, then reapply a high-quality wood preservative generously to all affected and surrounding areas. Prevention through annual treatment is key.

Care
Annual Treatment: To maintain the shed's durability, weatherproof qualities, and validate its 10-year anti-rot warranty, you must apply a high-quality timber preservative annually. This will protect the wood from rot, decay, and insect infestation.
Roof Maintenance: Regularly check the sand felt roof for any damage or tears, especially after severe weather, and repair promptly to prevent water ingress.
Cleaning: Clean the exterior periodically with a soft brush and mild soap solution to remove dirt and grime. Avoid harsh chemicals.
Ventilation: Ensure good airflow around the shed to prevent moisture buildup inside, especially if storing items prone to damp.
Pad-bolt Maintenance: Keep the pad-bolt mechanism clean and lubricated to ensure smooth operation.
